I’ve often heard of the food baklavas, but I have never tried these Middle Eastern delicacies before. When I first tried the baklavas Dr. Dickerson brought in, my first reaction was at how sweet these desserts were. Then, when I reached the center, which was topped with pistachios, the nutty flavor and texture balanced out the overwhelming sweetness I tasted on the first bite. I’ve come to notice that many Middle Eastern pastries contain pistachios, perhaps it’s a popular product in the area. The layering of the pastry felt like a croissant and reminded me of French pastries.
