Pistachio baklava, a traditional Middle Eastern treat, consists of several buttery layers of crispy phyllo, finely crushed pistachios, and sweet honey syrup. Other variations of Baklava include mixtures of various nuts, but pistachios and walnuts are generally the most popular. Served at Abu Rass, a Middle Eastern restaurant in Paterson New Jersey, the pistachio baklavas were absolutely delicious. While somewhat messy, the delicate crispiness and sweetness of the pastry combined with the subtle crunch of the pistachios was the perfect combination for an addicting dessert. After also tasting baklava for the first time in school, I looked forward to this dessert for the entire lunch in Paterson, and it did not disappoint. I even took some home to save for later. I would definitely recommend baklava to anyone who enjoys sweet pastries.
