Za’atar is a spice blend that is often used in the Middle East, consisting of sesame, the herb za’atar, sumac, as well as other traditional spices. Pictured above is za’atar spread on naan, an Indian flatbread, that my mom had made the night before Dr. Dickerson brought us za’atar to try on pita. I love za’atar, and found it especially interesting that it overlapped so coincidentally in our cultures and everyday diets.
