On June 5th we took a trip to Brighton Beach which is located in Brooklyn, NY. It is a place where a lot of immigrants and refugees moved from the Soviet Union in the 20th century. Throughout Brighton Beach there are plenty of Russian and other Soviet country shops. We arrived at Brighton Beach and first walked along the boardwalk before we headed off to the main drag to look at all of the different shops. Menaal and I went to a Russian bakery to start where we had an amazing chocolate fudge cake. We were so hungry at this point that we forgot to take a picture but it was so delicious. We then continued to walk around the street. We went to a pharmacy, a market where we bought candy, and a Russian bookstore. The Russian bookstore was very cool, as they had plenty of books that I have read before but in the Russian language. Afterwards we walked along the beach and water for a little bit. It was a beautiful day out and the water was very blue. You could also see Coney Island from where we were. We then finished off our day trip at Tatiana’s Restaurant where I had a caesar salad, Ukrainian borscht, and chicken kiev (I reviewed this). My meal was very good and left me very full when we left. During lunch Sarah’s dad talked to us about his immigration story to the United States from the Soviet Union. Overall, I had a really fun day in Brighton Beach and would recommend going there if you are in the area.
