New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District – Andy Kim(D), David Richter(R), and two other candidates.
Incumbent Andy Kim worked at the U.S. State Department and worked as a United States National Security Council official to Barack Obama. Endorsed by Obama, Joe Biden, and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, he ran in the 2018 election against incumbent Republican Tom MacArther. He won with 50% of the votes to MacArther’s 49%. In the 2016 presidential election, Trump won this district.
David Richter, a former lawyer and the former CEO of Hill International, does not have a past in politics. In the Republican primary, Richter defeated opponent Kate Gibbs by 27 points.

Andy Kim
- Guns: Kim supports gun control and has voted to require background checks for every firearm sale and transfer.
- Healthcare: Kim seeks to lower healthcare and prescription drug costs. He supports and hopes to expand the Affordable Care Act.
- Tax Reform: Kim supports tax cuts for middle class families, but not for corporations.
- Immigration: Kim has co-sponsored the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act, which increases the cap on the amount of family-based immigrant visas.
David Richter
- Guns: Richter is a supporter of the Second Amendment, and supports background checks to prevent criminals and the mentally disabled from acquiring guns. He has been endorsed by the NRA and the Gun Owners of America. He also supports conceal-carry.
- Healthcare: Richter hopes to promote market-based reforms to lower the cost of care and drugs instead of healthcare programs.
- Tax Reform: Richter plans to lift the state and local tax deduction cap and cup individual marginal tax rates. He plans to have additional reforms to increase entrepreneurship and help small businesses. He has been endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Business and Industry Political Action Committee.
- Immigration: Richter opposes across the board amnesty and seeks to ban sanctuary cities as states. He also supports the building of a wall and increasing funding for more security for the border.
