Alabama Senate: Incumbent Sen. Doug Jones (D), Challenger Tommy Tuberville (R)
Senator Jones is seen as one of the most vulnerable Democrats up for re-election this year; he was previously a US District Attorney (appointed by President Clinton), and an attorney in private practice. Tuberville is a former college football coach at the University of Mississippi, Auburn University, Texas Tech University, and the University of Cincinatti.
Issues: On abortion, Tuberville has been endorsed by the National Right to Life Committee (an anti-abortion group), and Jones was given a 0% rating by that same organization for being strongly pro-abortion. Jones has called for a better healthcare system, but supports the Affordable Care Act to some extent, while Tuberville has supported its repeal and cuts to the welfare state. Tuberville has advocated for national debt reduction, and Jones has characterized himself as a moderate Democrat on most issues. Jones also supports some tax cuts and the 2018 Republican Budget, but opposes tariffs.
Stats: In 2017, Jones defeated Republican Nominee Roy Moore in a special election by a margin of 50% to 48.3%. Tuberville has been leading consistently in the mid-to-high teens, and is heavily favored to win.
